Richard’s Rad Remembrance Run is a community 5K run, hike, or walk in memory of Richard Sorenson.

Richard loved trail running. The trails were his happy place, especially Upper Bidwell Park, where many of us saw him regularly. He was a familiar face in the local running community and someone who made people feel welcome simply by being there.

Richard passed away in December 2025 after struggling with depression, which came as a shock to many who knew him. This event is not a race or about times or results. It is about showing up, being outdoors, moving together, and remembering one of our best running homies in a way he would have appreciated.

The route follows one of Richard’s favorite trail loops in Upper Bidwell Park.

The run will start at Lot A in Upper Bidwell Park, just after you pass the first gate going into Upper Park.

All paces and abilities are welcome. Run it, hike it, or walk it. Friends, family, kids, and dogs are welcome.

The run takes place the morning of Richard’s Celebration of Life, which will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the CARD Community Center in Chico. Participants are invited to attend both.
